A good silicone joint depends more on preparation than on technique. Here is how to get a clean line around a shower, a sink or a backsplash.
1. Choose the right silicone
ADHEVON neutral silicone resists mould and water, and suits glass, ceramic, marble and metal. Pick transparent for an invisible joint, white for a well-defined line.
2. Prepare the joint
Remove the old joint, then clean, dry and degrease both edges. Silicone must only be applied to a clean, dry surface.
3. Mask the edges
Apply masking tape on each side of the joint, at the width you want: the tape is what gives you a straight line.
4. Cut the nozzle and apply
Cut the nozzle at 45 degrees to the width of the joint and load the 300 ml cartridge into a caulking gun. Lay a continuous bead without stopping, pushing the product into the joint.
5. Smooth, then remove the tape
Smooth right away with a spatula, then pull off the tape while the silicone is still fresh. Let it cure for the time shown on the packaging before getting the joint wet.
Uncured silicone may irritate the eyes or skin: work in a ventilated area and keep the product out of the reach of children.
